DP World Teams Up with Masdar to Power Ports with Renewable Energy

In a significant step towards sustainability within the global supply chain, leading logistics company DP World has joined forces with Masdar, a renowned clean energy company based in Abu Dhabi. This collaborative effort aims to explore and implement renewable energy solutions across DP World's vast network of port operations, with a particular focus on the Middle East and Africa regions.

The three-year partnership signifies a shared commitment to reducing the environmental impact of port operations. By exploring the potential of renewable energy sources like solar power and battery energy storage systems (BESS), DP World and Masdar hope to significantly decrease the carbon footprint of their facilities.

This initiative extends beyond simply implementing renewable energy solutions. The partnership also aims to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration, particularly regarding the regulatory landscape and challenges faced in emerging economies. This knowledge exchange will be crucial in facilitating the widespread adoption of sustainable practices within the global supply chain.

The initial focus of the collaboration will be on identifying optimal locations for deploying solar and energy storage systems in several key countries, including Saudi Arabia, Senegal, and Egypt. These strategic locations will serve as a springboard for further expansion of renewable energy solutions across DP World's extensive global network.

"Our partnership with Masdar represents a substantial leap forward in our unwavering commitment to sustainable operations at our ports and terminals," stated Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World's Chairman and CEO. "By actively exploring renewable energy solutions, we not only aim to reduce our own carbon footprint but also strive to drive positive change across the entire supply chain industry."

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of the collaboration in paving the way for a more sustainable future. He emphasized Masdar's dedication to working alongside DP World to explore all available options in advancing the development and deployment of renewable energy sources and storage systems, particularly within sectors traditionally known for being difficult to decarbonize.

The partnership between DP World and Masdar represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the global logistics industry. By harnessing the power of renewable energy, this collaboration has the potential to significantly reduce the environmental impact of port operations and pave the way for a cleaner and greener supply chain ecosystem.
