Google Maps, the world's leading navigation app, is enhancing the user experience with the introduction of "Glanceable Directions." This innovative feature aims to minimize phone usage while navigating, promoting safer and more convenient trips.
Glanceable Directions displays crucial navigation information without requiring users to switch to the full navigation mode. This includes real-time estimated arrival times (ETAs) and upcoming turn-by-turn instructions. The information is readily accessible on the lock screen or the route overview screen, even before initiating navigation.
This feature eliminates the need for constant phone manipulation, reducing distractions and promoting safer driving, cycling, and walking experiences. Additionally, Glanceable Directions automatically adjusts to user-initiated detours, ensuring accurate ETAs and turn instructions throughout the journey.
The feature is currently rolling out globally on both Android and iOS devices. However, it’s important to note that it's disabled by default. Users can easily activate Glanceable Directions by navigating to their profile settings within the Google Maps app and enabling the "Glanceable directions while navigating" option.
This update is part of Google's ongoing efforts to improve the overall user experience on Google Maps. By prioritizing safety and convenience, Glanceable Directions empowers users to navigate with minimal distraction, allowing them to focus on the journey.
