Sharjah Humanitarian City, a vital hub for social services in the Emirate of Sharjah, is undergoing a significant expansion to accommodate the rising demand for its services from families. The expansion, driven by a surge in requests for assistance, will see the organization move to a new, 10-hectare facility on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road.
The new center, costing Dh500 million, represents a significant leap forward for Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS). With construction completed in phases since November 2019, the move is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks. The expanded facility will house over 10 schools, centers, nurseries, and departments, allowing SCHS to serve a larger population and offer a wider range of programs.
The expansion comes amidst a growing need for humanitarian assistance, particularly from families facing socio-economic challenges. Increased demand has strained the capacity of SCHS's existing facilities, highlighting the need for a larger and more modern space. The new center aims to address this need by providing more comprehensive and accessible services to families in Sharjah.
"The figure for the new center was decided upon after a careful comparison with other facilities," explained Ms. Al Yafei, a representative of SCHS. "Our studies revealed that close to 80% of parents face financial difficulties in affording these services. Therefore, SCHS offers support through donations and Zakat funds to cover costs either fully or partially."
The expansion of Sharjah Humanitarian City is a testament to the organization's commitment to providing essential support to families in need. The new facility will enable SCHS to reach more individuals, offer more diverse services, and play an even greater role in strengthening the social fabric of Sharjah.
