Abu Dhabi Stages Thrilling Second Government Games Championship

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), with the backing of the Government Support Department, recently concluded the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Government Games Championship. The tournament, held between March 13th and 28th, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 2,000 government employees across 40 Abu Dhabi agencies. The closing ceremony was a grand affair, celebrating athletic achievements and recognizing the spirit of camaraderie fostered by the Games.

The Championship served as a platform for government employees to compete in eleven different sporting disciplines. These included football, archery, padel, fitness challenges, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, chess, badminton, running, and cycling. The contests provided a welcome break from daily routines while promoting a culture of health and well-being within government departments.

Rashed Abdul Karim Al Balooshi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department for Economic Development (ADDED), Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Executive Director of the Support Services Sector at the ADSC, and Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the ADSC, graced the closing ceremony and presented awards to the winners across the various categories.

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) received special recognition for fielding the most significant number of participants across the eleven sporting events. Their commitment to employee well-being and fostering a culture of sportsmanship was acknowledged through the award of a special competition shield.

However, the Abu Dhabi Police emerged as the true champions of the Games, bagging the most significant number of victories across the various sporting disciplines. Their dedication to physical fitness and competitive spirit were evident in their dominant performance. The General Sports Excellence Shield was presented to the Abu Dhabi Police in recognition of their achievement.

Beyond the thrill of competition, the Abu Dhabi Government Games Championship served a crucial purpose in promoting employee engagement and fostering a sense of community within the government sector. Held during the holy month of Ramadan, the tournament provided a unique platform for colleagues from different departments to connect and interact in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, along with the Government Support Department, deserves credit for organizing a successful Games Championship. The event not only highlighted the importance of physical activity but also emphasized its role in fostering a healthy and productive work environment within Abu Dhabi's government sector.
