Daily Excerpts Ignite Reading Passion in Abu Dhabi's Reading Month Initiative

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is fostering a love of reading among adults with the "31 Essays… 31 Days" initiative. Launched as part of Reading Month celebrations currently underway throughout March, the program aims to spark engagement by offering daily curated excerpts from a diverse range of books and articles.

Spearheaded by MAKTABA, the Library Management department within DCT Abu Dhabi's Culture Sector, the initiative provides a taste of various literary and scientific disciplines. Every day throughout March, MAKTABA unveils its selection of excerpts on its social media channels, drawing from a rich pool of local, Arab, and international literature. Poetry, novels, historical accounts, and scientific explorations are all represented, catering to a wide range of interests.

This carefully curated program goes beyond simply encouraging reading; it's designed to broaden participants' cultural horizons. By introducing them to a variety of genres and voices, the initiative aims to spark curiosity and a desire to delve deeper into the complete works. This exposure to different cultures and perspectives fosters a more open-minded and knowledgeable citizenry.

The "31 Essays… 31 Days" program leverages the convenience of digital platforms to make participation effortless. The excerpts are readily available on the MAKTABA Digital Library, allowing participants to seamlessly transition from the curated selections to the full works if their interest is piqued. This accessibility ensures there are no barriers for those who wish to embark on a month-long literary exploration.

The initiative aligns perfectly with DCT Abu Dhabi's commitment to promoting a vibrant cultural scene in the emirate. By fostering a love of reading and intellectual curiosity, DCT Abu Dhabi is not only enriching the lives of residents but also laying the foundation for a future generation of engaged learners and critical thinkers. The "31 Essays… 31 Days" program serves as a springboard, igniting a passion for reading that can continue to flourish long after Reading Month concludes.
