Emirati Residents Get Active with New Year-Long Program

The Emirates Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on social welfare in the United Arab Emirates, has joined forces with PureHealth, a leading healthcare provider, to launch a new initiative aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles across Abu Dhabi. Dubbed "Active Abu Dhabi," this year-long program kicks off on March 18th, 2024, with a free, 14-day walking challenge called "First Steps."

This collaborative effort signifies a significant step towards bolstering public health in the Emirate. Already, 37.3% of Abu Dhabi residents adhere to World Health Organization recommendations for physical activity. Active Abu Dhabi seeks to build upon this progress by encouraging even greater participation in sports and fostering a culture of well-being within the community.

The initiative's year-long calendar will encompass a variety of engaging activities designed to cater to all fitness levels. The "First Steps" challenge serves as a springboard, offering participants daily walking challenges, informative sessions on healthy living, and exciting prizes. Held at Umm Al Emarat Park, a popular recreational hub, the event is intended to be inclusive and welcoming to residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Active Abu Dhabi goes beyond traditional fitness programs by incorporating innovative technological solutions. PureHealth, the program's healthcare partner, brings its expertise in preventative care to the table through their AI-powered longevity app, Pura. This app offers users personalized fitness plans, tracks progress, and provides valuable data on overall health. By integrating Pura into the Active Abu Dhabi experience, organizers hope to empower residents to take charge of their well-being and make sustainable lifestyle changes.

The initiative reflects a growing recognition within the Emirati government of the importance of preventative healthcare initiatives. Chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease are a growing concern in the UAE, and promoting physical activity is a cornerstone of tackling these issues. Active Abu Dhabi aims to create a ripple effect, inspiring residents to embrace healthier habits that not only improve their physical health but also enhance their mental well-being and strengthen social bonds within communities.

Looking ahead, the long-term vision of Active Abu Dhabi is to establish itself as a cornerstone of Abu Dhabi's social infrastructure. By fostering a culture of activity and prioritizing preventative healthcare, the program aspires to contribute to a healthier and more vibrant future for the Emirate.
