Dubai-based budget carrier flydubai has announced the addition of two new destinations to its growing network within Saudi Arabia. The airline will resume flights to the historic city of Al Jouf, located in the north-central region, and initiate service to the recently opened Red Sea International Airport, a gateway to the kingdom's stunning Red Sea tourism projects.
Flights to both destinations are scheduled to commence on April 18, 2023, operating twice weekly from Dubai International Airport's Terminal 2. This expansion marks flydubai's continued commitment to serving underserved markets and strengthening its presence within the strategically important GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region.
"We are delighted to further expand our network in the GCC with the launch of flights to Al Jouf and Red Sea International," said Hamad Obaidalla, Chief Commercial Officer at flydubai. "These direct flights will not only cater to the growing demand for travel between the UAE and Saudi Arabia but will also play a crucial role in supporting the ongoing development of the tourism and economic sectors in both countries."
The resumption of service to Al Jouf, often referred to as an "open-air museum" due to its rich historical sites, is expected to be well-received by passengers seeking cultural experiences. Al Jouf boasts numerous archaeological treasures, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mada'in Saleh, an ancient city carved into sandstone cliffs. The destination also offers visitors a glimpse into traditional Saudi Arabian life, with its vibrant souks and historical mudbrick architecture.
The addition of Red Sea International Airport to flydubai's network aligns with the airline's strategy of capitalizing on emerging tourism hotspots. The new airport serves as the gateway to The Red Sea Project, a multi-billion dollar development project transforming the kingdom's Red Sea coast into a luxurious tourism destination. Passengers flying into Red Sea International can expect to be within easy reach of pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a plethora of planned luxury resorts.
By offering direct flights to these two diverse destinations, flydubai is providing passengers with greater choice and flexibility when traveling between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The airline's expansion into these new markets is also expected to contribute to the growth of trade and investment opportunities between the two neighboring countries.
