The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) in Abu Dhabi has finalized preparations to accommodate the anticipated influx of worshippers and visitors during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. This year, Ramadan is expected to draw larger crowds compared to recent years, reflecting a return to normalcy following the COVID-19 pandemic.
During Ramadan in 2019, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque received nearly 1.44 million guests, including worshippers and visitors. The SZGMC anticipates surpassing this number in 2024. To ensure a smooth and enriching experience for all, the Centre has established dedicated committees and teams tasked with providing comprehensive services and facilities around the clock.
A crucial aspect of these preparations involves collaboration with government and private entities. Recent meetings focused on streamlining operations throughout Ramadan. Efforts include ensuring ample parking and offering a convenient electric car shuttle service to transport worshippers from parking areas directly to prayer halls. The SZGMC has deployed over 38 electric cars for this purpose.
Furthermore, the SZGMC is committed to reviving cherished Emirati traditions associated with Ramadan. In collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, the Centre will reinstate the firing of cannons to mark the beginning of Ramadan, coinciding with the official announcement by the Ramadan Moon Sighting Committee. This daily tradition will continue throughout the holy month, signaling the Iftar (evening breaking of fast) time and the joyous arrival of Eid Al Fitr, the festival marking the end of Ramadan. The cannon firings will be broadcasted live on Abu Dhabi Media TV channels, allowing people from all backgrounds to experience this cultural heritage.
Religious activities will be a cornerstone of the Ramadan experience at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The Centre will host nightly Taraweeh prayers, a special Ramadan prayer led by renowned reciters. Additionally, a series of religious lectures delivered by esteemed scholars and preachers will delve into a variety of religious, cultural, and social topics. Daily Dhikr sessions (sessions of remembrance of God) will also be held, providing worshippers with a space for dedicated prayer and reflection.
Beyond religious activities, the SZGMC has curated a program of cultural events to enrich the Ramadan experience. The specific details of these events have not yet been disclosed, but they are expected to reflect the spirit of Ramadan and showcase Emirati culture and traditions.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a beacon of faith and cultural significance, not just for the UAE but for the wider Muslim world. By meticulously preparing to welcome worshippers and visitors during Ramadan, the SZGMC aims to foster a spiritual and enriching environment for all.
