Masdar Secures Stake in UK's Massive Offshore Wind Project


Abu Dhabi's clean energy leader, Masdar, has secured a significant stake in the Dogger Bank South (DBS) project, one of the world's largest planned offshore wind farms. The acquisition, finalized on February 29th, 2024, grants Masdar a 49% ownership share in the project, with German energy giant RWE holding the remaining 51%.

This joint venture, valued at £11 billion ($14 billion), marks a major step in Masdar's global expansion strategy and the UAE's commitment to supporting international clean energy goals. The DBS project, located over 100 kilometers off the northeastern coast of England, boasts a colossal capacity of 3 gigawatts (GW). This translates to enough clean electricity to power 3 million homes in the UK, significantly contributing to the nation's ambitious net-zero targets.

The project is expected to create thousands of jobs during various stages. Construction is estimated to generate 2,000 positions, while the operational phase promises to sustain an additional 1,000 jobs.
