Sharjah Embarks on Rail Journey with New Station for Etihad Network

Sharjah, one of the United Arab Emirates' seven emirates, is poised to join the national railway network, Etihad Rail, with the construction of a dedicated passenger station. The announcement, made on Wednesday, signifies a significant step forward in the emirate's transportation infrastructure development and is expected to enhance connectivity within the region.

The new station, strategically situated near Sharjah University City, will offer convenient access to key landmarks, educational institutions, and residential areas within the emirate and beyond. This central location is expected to attract a significant ridership, particularly students traveling between cities for educational purposes. Officials anticipate the connection to boost daily passenger traffic on the Etihad Rail network to an impressive 14,000 individuals.

The official ceremony marking this development witnessed the signing of a design-build agreement between Etihad Rail and Tristar Engineering & Construction Company. The agreement paves the way for the seamless integration of the Sharjah station into the existing Etihad Rail network.

Speaking at the event, His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Rail, emphasized the project's significance in bolstering the national railway network. He highlighted the company's commitment to connecting cities and residential areas across the country, fostering a more interconnected and efficient transportation system.

The Sharjah station represents a crucial addition to the Etihad Rail network, which currently spans over 1,200 kilometers and connects key economic and industrial zones across the UAE. The network plays a vital role in facilitating passenger and freight movement, contributing to the nation's economic diversification and sustainable development goals.

The project is expected to not only revolutionize travel options for Sharjah residents but also contribute to the emirate's overall economic growth. Improved connectivity is likely to attract businesses and investments, further solidifying Sharjah's position as a prominent economic hub within the region.
