The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has received another group of Palestinian patients in need of medical treatment. This latest contingent, the 13th to arrive since the initiative began last November, brings the total number of Palestinians receiving care in UAE hospitals to over 1,150.
The group, which arrived on March 16th, included 98 individuals. Forty of these were children suffering from severe injuries and burns, most likely sustained in the ongoing conflict. The remaining patients were adults battling cancer and requiring specialized treatment. According to UAE officials, all patients will be accompanied by family members throughout their stay, bringing the total number of arrivals to 1,154.
This humanitarian mission stems from a directive by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. His directive pledged to provide medical care within UAE hospitals for a total of 1,000 wounded Palestinian children and 1,000 cancer patients from the Gaza Strip. The initiative reflects the UAE's long-standing commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and alleviating the hardships they face.
The most critically ill patients were immediately transported to hospitals upon arrival. Others were taken to the Emirates Humanitarian City, a sprawling complex that provides temporary housing and essential services for those in need.
The UAE's efforts have been praised by many for providing much-needed medical attention to a population struggling with a fragile healthcare system. The ongoing conflict in the region has placed immense strain on Gaza's medical infrastructure, making it difficult for residents to access proper care, especially for serious injuries and chronic illnesses like cancer.
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed further emphasized the UAE's commitment to humanitarian aid by meeting with Erin Gore, the CEO of World Central Kitchen, on the same day the latest group of patients arrived. Their discussions focused on optimizing aid delivery to Gaza through various channels, including land, air, and sea routes.
The UAE's initiative is a significant contribution to improving the well-being of the Palestinian people. By offering critical medical care to wounded children and cancer patients, the UAE is helping to alleviate suffering and offer a glimmer of hope for a healthier future.
