The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) successfully wrapped up its participation in the World Future Energy Summit 2024, held from April 16th to 18th at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event, hosted by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), serves as a prominent platform for showcasing pioneering advancements in sustainable energy solutions.
DEWA's presence at the summit aimed to highlight its commitment to clean energy initiatives and its role in shaping a sustainable future. Throughout the three-day event, the Authority's stand attracted a significant number of dignitaries, officials, and summit participants eager to learn more about DEWA's groundbreaking projects. These included representatives from South Korea, led by their ambassador to the UAE, Yoo Jehseung, who commended DEWA's dedication to the renewable energy sector.
A key focus of DEWA's showcase was the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar park utilizing the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. With a planned capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030, the park represents a significant investment in clean energy, utilizing a combination of photovoltaic solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies.
During the summit, DEWA specifically highlighted the achievements of the solar park's recently completed fourth phase, boasting a capacity of 950MW. This phase incorporates cutting-edge technologies, including the world's tallest CSP tower, reaching an impressive height of over 263 meters. The project also features the world's largest thermal energy storage capacity, clocking in at a staggering 5,907 megawatt-hours, as verified by Guinness World Records.
In addition to the fourth phase, DEWA presented details on the upcoming sixth phase of the solar park, being developed in collaboration with Masdar. This phase will utilize the latest advancements in solar photovoltaic bifacial technologies with single-axis tracking, further optimizing energy production.
DEWA's participation at the World Future Energy Summit extended beyond showcasing its own projects. The Authority also actively participated in four panel discussions, fostering dialogue and knowledge-sharing around critical topics related to sustainable development and the transition towards clean energy sources. This commitment to collaboration underscores DEWA's dedication to working alongside other stakeholders to accelerate the global shift towards a sustainable future.
