The Dubai Autism Centre (DAC) has kicked off its 18th annual Autism Awareness Campaign, running throughout April. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, the campaign coincides with World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd.
This year's initiative focuses on raising awareness and promoting the inclusion of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) within the community. The DAC has planned a month-long series of events, workshops, and seminars aimed at educating the public about ASD and fostering a more understanding and supportive environment.
“Our annual campaign serves a critical role in bridging the gap between individuals with autism and the wider community,” said Dr. Abdulla Al Jufri, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the DAC. “By providing a platform for education and fostering a spirit of inclusion, we can empower people with autism to thrive and reach their full potential.”
A cornerstone of the campaign will be a series of free workshops and seminars designed to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools to better understand and interact with people with ASD. Topics will range from recognizing the signs of autism in children to effective communication strategies and creating sensory-friendly environments.
The campaign will also feature community events designed to celebrate the unique talents and abilities of individuals with autism. Art exhibitions showcasing works by autistic artists and family-friendly social gatherings are planned, aiming to break down stereotypes and foster a sense of belonging.
Landmark buildings across Dubai will be illuminated in blue throughout April, the internationally recognized color for autism awareness. This visual display of solidarity serves as a powerful symbol of the UAE's commitment to creating a more inclusive society for all.
The Dubai Autism Centre plays a leading role in providing comprehensive support services for individuals with autism across the lifespan. The Centre offers diagnostic assessments, therapy programs, educational resources, and vocational training, all geared towards empowering individuals with ASD to achieve their life goals.
The 18th Annual Autism Awareness Campaign by the Dubai Autism Centre serves as a vital platform to not only raise awareness about autism but also to celebrate the unique strengths and contributions of autistic individuals. By fostering a more inclusive and understanding community, the campaign paves the way for a brighter future for all.
