The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) spread joy and Eid cheer to nearly 100 orphaned and cancer-stricken children in Syria. The heartwarming event, held in Latakia province, unfolded as part of "Operation Gallant Knight 2," a humanitarian initiative launched by the UAE's Ministry of Defence.
This act of kindness aligned with the UAE's ongoing efforts to support the Syrian people, particularly those affected by the devastating earthquake that struck the region earlier this year. The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, aimed to bring a sense of normalcy and festive spirit to children enduring hardship.
"This gesture is about spreading smiles and happiness among orphaned and cancer-stricken children on Eid," said Mohammed Khamis Al Kaabi, Head of the ERC Delegation in Syria. "We want them to experience the joy of the festivities alongside their peers." Al Kaabi emphasized that the event served as an extension of the UAE's commitment to providing psychological support to those impacted by the earthquake.
News of the ERC's initiative resonated with Ruba Hussien, Secretary-General of the Assawari Association, a Syrian community organization. Hussien expressed her deepest gratitude to the UAE for bringing a much-needed spark of joy to the children's lives, especially in the face of their difficult circumstances.
Operation Gallant Knight 2 stands as a testament to the UAE's unwavering support for the Syrian people. Beyond the Eid celebration, the initiative has seen the UAE dispatch a staggering 186 aircraft and four ships loaded with essential supplies, including food, medicine, and medical equipment, to bolster Syria's recovery efforts.
The ERC's compassionate act in Latakia served as a beacon of hope for these vulnerable children. Through games, songs, and shared experiences, the ERC facilitated a space for them to celebrate Eid al-Adha and find solace in the company of others.
