The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA-OIC) collaborated with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) to organize a workshop geared towards introducing the second edition of the World Media Congress (WMC). The virtual workshop, held in July 2023, served as a platform to acquaint UNA-OIC members with the upcoming congress scheduled for November 14-16, 2023, in Abu Dhabi.
The workshop specifically highlighted the opportunities available to member news agencies during the WMC. This included reserving exhibition spaces, participating in side meetings and discussions, and engaging in knowledge exchange with international media representatives. The WMC also presented a chance to establish cooperation agreements and stay updated on the latest advancements and innovations shaping the media landscape.
Organizing the workshop aligned with UNA-OIC's commitment to amplifying the participation of its members in prominent global media events. This involvement, as highlighted by Mohammed Abed Rabbo Al-Yami, Acting Director General of UNA-OIC, would contribute to enhanced performance and modernized tools within member agencies. The workshop provided a platform for exchanging ideas on capitalizing on this significant global event, particularly in the face of the ever-evolving media landscape. Al-Yami emphasized the importance for news agencies to adapt to these changes to solidify their role as trusted sources of information.
The second edition of the WMC, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court of the United Arab Emirates, focused on the theme of sustainability and environmental media. The congress offered a diverse range of activities, encompassing innovation platforms, over 35 workshops, live performances, and educational forums. These forums provided opportunities for attendees to learn about the newest media technologies and trends.
The UNA-OIC and WAM collaboration for the workshop reflects a broader effort to cultivate a strong and collaborative media community within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. This collaborative approach empowers member news agencies to navigate the ever-changing media environment and thrive in the face of global challenges.
