The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA-OIC) is gearing up for the upcoming Global Media Congress with a preparatory workshop held in collaboration with the Emirates News Agency (WAM). This initiative serves to prime member news agencies for the second edition of the Congress, slated to take place in Abu Dhabi later this year.
The virtual workshop, held in July 2023, attracted representatives from over 40 OIC member and observer states. The primary objective of the session was to familiarize participants with the upcoming Congress, including its agenda, opportunities for participation, and the latest advancements shaping the media landscape.
Mohammed Abed Rabbo Al-Yami, Acting Director General of UNA-OIC, emphasized the significance of the workshop in facilitating member agencies' active engagement with the Global Media Congress. He highlighted the event's potential to enhance their performance and modernize their operations through exposure to cutting-edge media technologies and innovations.
The workshop offered a platform for knowledge exchange among participants, allowing them to brainstorm strategies for maximizing their benefit from the Congress. Discussions centered on navigating the rapidly evolving media landscape and the crucial role official news agencies play in maintaining their position as trusted sources of information.
Beyond equipping participants with the necessary knowledge, the workshop also underscored the efforts of member agencies, particularly WAM, in organizing such prestigious media events. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of unity and strengthens the collective voice of OIC news agencies on the global stage.
The Global Media Congress, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court of the United Arab Emirates, is expected to attract leading figures from the regional and international media industry. The Congress agenda promises a diverse range of activities, including conferences, exhibitions, live performances, and educational sessions focused on the latest media trends and technologies.
This UNA-OIC organized workshop serves as a springboard for a successful Global Media Congress, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among member news agencies in preparation for a significant event on the international media calendar.
