German energy giant RWE has announced a significant stride towards the country's ambitious renewable energy goals. The company plans to construct a colossal wind farm cluster in the North Sea, boasting a total capacity of 1. 6 gigawatts (GW). Dubbed the "Nordseecluster, " the project will be built in two phases, strategically located roughly 50 kilometers north of Juist Island.
The first phase, Nordseecluster A, will encompass 660 MW and is slated for construction to commence next year. With an anticipated completion date of early 2027, this initial stage will see the installation of 44 wind turbines. The second phase, Nordseecluster B, will add an additional 900 MW of capacity through the deployment of 60 turbines. This phase is expected to begin construction in 2027 and achieve commercial operation by early 2029.
RWE has already secured suppliers for the major components required for the entire Nordseecluster project. This comprehensive approach ensures a streamlined construction process and paves the way for timely completion.
The Nordseecluster is projected to generate a substantial 6. 5 terawatt hours of clean electricity annually.
