The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), spearheaded by the Sharjah Exports Development Centre (SEDC), recently concluded a fruitful trade mission to India. The five-day visit, aimed at bolstering economic ties between the two regions, saw delegates from Sharjah engage in productive discussions with their Indian counterparts in New Delhi and Mumbai.
The mission, which wrapped up in mid-May 2024, facilitated a significant number of business interactions. Over 365 bilateral meetings were arranged, bringing together representatives from Sharjah's participating companies and more than 220 Indian businesses across diverse sectors. These meetings aimed to explore potential avenues for collaboration and investment, with a focus on propelling trade volumes between the two economic powerhouses.
A highlight of the mission was the Sharjah-India Business Forum held in Mumbai. This platform provided a dedicated space for over 110 Indian businesses and their counterparts from Sharjah to delve deeper into specific areas of mutual interest. Discussions spanned various industries and investment opportunities, fostering a spirit of partnership and knowledge exchange.
The Sharjah delegation, led by SCCI Chairman Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, actively engaged with key Indian business associations. Meetings were held with representatives from the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO). These discussions emphasized the desire for stronger industrial and commercial cooperation, with both sides exploring avenues for joint ventures and knowledge sharing.
The trade mission's success is further underscored by India's reciprocation. Following the productive meetings, representatives from the Indian business community expressed their intention to organize a return visit later this year. This high-level delegation visit to Sharjah is expected to solidify the burgeoning trade partnership and pave the way for future collaborations.
The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry has lauded the mission's achievements, highlighting its contribution to strengthening ties with India, a crucial trade partner for the Emirate. The significant number of business meetings and the planned return visit from India signify the mission's effectiveness in fostering mutually beneficial economic relations. With a clear focus on collaboration and knowledge exchange, the mission has laid a strong foundation for a prosperous future in Sharjah-India trade relations.
