The UAE's humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip have taken a sophisticated turn with the Floating Hospital, a medical facility docked in the Egyptian city of Al Arish, proving to be a lifeline for injured Palestinians. As part of "Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, " the hospital is performing complex surgeries previously unavailable in the region.
Dr. Ahmed Mubarak, Director of the Hospital, highlighted the recent accomplishment of the medical team. "Our specialists have conducted five delicate surgeries in the past two days, " he said. These procedures, the first of their kind in state-run field hospitals, addressed complex compound fractures. The success hinged on both the expertise of the medical team and the utilization of advanced technology. Specialized titanium spinal nails were used to repair the fractures, a testament to the high-tech equipment available on the hospital ship.
"Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, " launched under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, aims to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The Floating Hospital serves as a critical component of this initiative, expanding the scope of medical care accessible to Palestinian families.
Since its launch in February, the hospital has treated over 180 patients and performed an impressive 430 surgeries, averaging five procedures daily. The facility boasts a 120-bed capacity, recently expanded from its original 100 beds, with an additional 100 beds designated for patient companions. This expansion reflects the significant demand for the specialized services offered by the hospital.
The UAE's commitment to the well-being of the Palestinian people extends beyond the Floating Hospital. An earlier initiative saw the establishment of a 200-bed integrated field hospital within the Gaza Strip itself. Staffed by a dedicated multinational team of 83 volunteers, this land-based facility complements the services provided by the Floating Hospital.
The combined efforts of these medical facilities offer a beacon of hope for Palestinians grappling with the aftermath of conflict and limited access to high-level medical care. The UAE's humanitarian intervention, particularly the pioneering efforts of the Floating Hospital, is demonstrably improving the lives of those most in need.
