Abu Dhabi marked a significant milestone for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, hosting the organization's annual conference, the Global Wish Summit, for the very first time in Asia. Held on June 3rd, 2024, the summit brought together over 150 leading figures in local, regional, and international charity and community work. The Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, along with 37 other chapters from around the world, participated in the landmark event.
Hani Al Zubaidi, CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, hailed the summit's significance. "The Global Wish Summit being held for the first time in Asia, here in Abu Dhabi, is a testament to the growing role the region plays in global philanthropy, " he said. The Abu Dhabi summit served as a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration among international humanitarian organizations. Representatives discussed best practices in granting wishes for children with critical illnesses, fostering a spirit of collective action in spreading hope and joy.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation has a long and distinguished history in the UAE, granting wishes to over 7, 000 children since its inception in 2010. Their work extends beyond the Emirates' borders, with chapters operating in Yemen, Egypt, and Jordan. Luciano Manzo, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish International, highlighted the organization's ambitious goals. "We are here in Abu Dhabi to inspire others to join our mission of making wishes come true for children with critical illnesses, " he remarked. "Last year alone, we were able to grant over 35, 000 wishes, and in the next five years, we aim to double that number. "
The Abu Dhabi summit provided a valuable opportunity for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to showcase the UAE's growing reputation as a global hub for humanitarian work. The Emirate's commitment to philanthropy aligns perfectly with the Make-A-Wish Foundation's mission, creating a strong foundation for future collaboration. The collective efforts of these organizations promise to bring hope and happiness to countless children around the world.
