Energy Giants Collaborate on Egyptian Green Hydrogen Project

Four major energy players – bp, Masdar, Hassan Allam Utilities, and Infinity Power – have joined forces to explore the development of a large-scale green hydrogen project in Egypt. This collaboration, solidified through a Joint Development Agreement (JDA), signifies a significant step towards establishing Egypt as a key producer and exporter of clean hydrogen fuel.

The consortium will leverage the existing green hydrogen project plans of each member company in Egypt. bp, a global energy leader, will take the lead role as the project's primary developer and operator. By combining their expertise and resources, the consortium aims to develop a multi-phased green hydrogen project with the potential for export.

Green hydrogen, or gH2, is produced through electrolysis, a process that splits water molecules using renewable electricity sources like solar or wind power. This method eliminates carbon emissions from the hydrogen production stage, making it a clean and sustainable alternative to traditional, fossil fuel-derived hydrogen.

Egypt boasts immense potential for renewable energy generation due to its abundant sunshine and wind resources. This, coupled with the country's strategic location and well-developed export infrastructure, positions it as a prime candidate for becoming a major green hydrogen hub.
