ACWA Power partners with PLN for groundbreaking solar project in Indonesia

Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power has partnered with Indonesia’s state utility company, PLN, to develop the country's first floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project. Set to be constructed in West Java, this 110 MWac installation is part of Indonesia's broader goal to increase its renewable energy capacity to 23% by 2025. The project, expected to be operational by 2027, will be located on the Cirata Reservoir and is projected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, providing clean energy to thousands of households in the region.

ACWA Power’s expansion into Indonesia aligns with Southeast Asia's growing focus on floating solar technology, driven by limited land availability and abundant water resources. This innovative approach, which allows solar panels to be installed on water surfaces, is expected to see substantial growth in the region over the coming years.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources emphasized the project's importance, noting that it will play a critical role in the nation’s transition to sustainable energy sources. The deal also marks a significant milestone for ACWA Power, further solidifying its presence in the Southeast Asian energy market, where the company already operates solar power facilities in Vietnam.

While the final power purchase agreement (PPA) is yet to be signed, both parties are optimistic about the project's potential to contribute to Indonesia's energy transition goals. The collaboration also reflects ACWA Power’s commitment to developing renewable energy solutions that cater to the unique geographical and environmental conditions of the regions it operates in.

This floating solar PV project not only underscores Indonesia's renewable energy ambitions but also highlights ACWA Power's strategic role in advancing clean energy initiatives globally. As the largest floating solar project in Indonesia, it is poised to set a precedent for future renewable energy developments in the country and across Southeast Asia.
