Saudi Arabia Tourism Revenue Reaches $37 Billion in 2023

Saudi Arabia has achieved a significant milestone in its tourism sector, with inbound tourist spending surpassing $37 billion (SAR 135 billion) in 2023. This marks a record-high in the Kingdom's history, reflecting a 42.8% increase compared to the previous year's figures.

The growth in tourism expenditure highlights Saudi Arabia's successful efforts to diversify its economy and position itself as a global tourism destination. The surge in spending is attributed to the Kingdom's ambitious initiatives under Vision 2030, which aims to reduce reliance on oil revenue by boosting sectors like tourism.

Saudi Arabia has also seen a remarkable increase in the number of international tourists. In 2023, the country welcomed over 106 million domestic and international visitors, representing a 12% rise from 2022. This increase has placed Saudi Arabia at the forefront of global tourism recovery, with the Middle East being the only region to surpass pre-pandemic levels of tourist arrivals.

These achievements have garnered international recognition, with organizations such as the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) commending the Kingdom's rapid progress in developing its tourism sector.

The growth in tourism has been supported by the development of key destinations, enhanced infrastructure, and an increasing number of events and attractions that cater to a diverse range of tourists. Saudi Arabia's focus on sustainability and heritage tourism has also played a crucial role in attracting visitors from around the world.

As the Kingdom continues to invest in its tourism sector, the government remains optimistic about sustaining this momentum and further enhancing Saudi Arabia's appeal as a top global tourist destination.
