Saudi advanced air mobility aims to reshape transport and healthcare sectors

Saudi Arabia is positioning itself at the forefront of advanced air mobility (AAM) in the Middle East, with ambitions to revolutionize its transportation, tourism, and healthcare sectors. As part of its Vision 2030 initiative, the Kingdom is integrating cutting-edge technology to transform the movement of people and goods, reduce traffic congestion, and improve emergency services.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has outlined an extensive roadmap that includes various technologies like electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and drones. This initiative, named ‘Enabling Advanced Air Transport in the Kingdom,’ aims to deliver efficient, sustainable, and safe air transportation solutions. By harnessing AAM, Saudi Arabia expects to alleviate road congestion and provide easier access to remote areas, while contributing to its long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.

Captain Sulaiman Al-Muhaymedi, GACA's Executive Vice President, emphasized that the Kingdom is not merely adding a new mode of transport but creating the backbone for a new era of economic and social development. He highlighted the role of AAM in emergency medical services, disaster relief, and even medical evacuation, which will vastly improve healthcare delivery, especially in remote areas.
