Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the UAE Women's Tour has rapidly ascended to prominence within the region's sporting landscape. Its recognition with the ISC Global Award underscores the nation's dedication to advancing women's sports and empowering female athletes on both regional and global stages.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, expressed his pride in the achievement, stating, "The UAE Women's Tour receiving this global award underscores the UAE's leading position in organising world-class sports events and reflects our vision in supporting and developing women's sports according to the highest international standards." He further highlighted that this honour "marks the beginning of more achievements following the successful third edition of the race held last February, with the participation of top international cyclists from 20 global teams across four diverse stages that showcased the natural diversity of the UAE’s terrain."
The third edition of the UAE Women's Tour, conducted in February 2025, attracted elite cyclists from 20 international teams. The race spanned four stages, each meticulously designed to highlight the UAE's varied landscapes—from expansive deserts to bustling urban centres. This strategic route planning not only challenged the competitors but also showcased the nation's commitment to integrating sports with cultural and environmental appreciation.
Lorena Wiebes of the Netherlands emerged as a standout performer during the tour. Her remarkable sprint victory on Stage 4 at the Abu Dhabi Breakwater was a testament to her skill and strategy. Despite facing challenges, including positioning setbacks in the final kilometres, Wiebes demonstrated resilience and tactical acumen, securing her third stage win of the tour. Her performance was lauded by many, with commentators noting the dominance and precision she exhibited throughout the race.
The success of the UAE Women's Tour is indicative of the nation's broader vision to position itself as a global sports hub. By hosting events that meet and exceed international standards, the UAE aims to inspire a new generation of athletes and promote a culture of health, fitness, and competitive excellence.
