China Advances Blockchain Integration to Enhance Data Security and Credit Information Sharing

The Chinese government has initiated measures to incorporate blockchain technology into its data security and credit information systems. Li Chunlin, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission , announced at a press conference on April 2 that privacy computing has been applied to credit information sharing to mitigate the risk of data leaks. The NDRC plans to further explore blockchain technology to facilitate the "on-chaining" of critical data, enabling encrypted processing and flexible data management.

This initiative aligns with China's broader strategy to bolster data security and foster innovation in the digital domain. By integrating blockchain, authorities aim to enhance the transparency and accuracy of systems such as social security and poverty alleviation funds, thereby reducing corruption and misuse. The decentralized nature of blockchain technology offers a unified data-sharing model with autonomous authority management, providing efficient and secure services for distributed government data sharing.

In December 2023, China launched the Real-Name Decentralized Identifier System , a national-level decentralized identifier system developed by the First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security and the Blockchain-based Service Network China. RealDID facilitates real-name identity verification using blockchain technology, offering services such as data encryption for personal data protection and secure private logins. This system allows residents to access online services using decentralized identifiers and private keys, maintaining anonymity with platform operators while complying with real-name registration regulations.
