Folk Maritime enhances regional trade with acquisition of M/V Folk Jazan

Folk Maritime Services Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund , has officially acquired its second vessel, the M/V Folk Jazan. Registered at Jeddah Islamic Port, this addition underscores the company's commitment to bolstering maritime connectivity across the Middle East and East Africa.

The M/V Folk Jazan, a modern container ship, aligns with Folk Maritime's strategy to expand its fleet with state-of-the-art vessels. This move is part of the broader Vision 2030 initiative, aiming to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub by enhancing its maritime infrastructure and trade routes.

Poul Hestbaek, CEO of Folk Maritime, emphasized the significance of this acquisition: "The addition of the M/V Folk Jazan to our fleet represents a pivotal step in our mission to enhance regional connectivity and support the Kingdom's vision of becoming a leading player in global logistics."

In line with its growth trajectory, Folk Maritime has been actively expanding its services. In September 2024, the company launched a liner service connecting Jeddah Islamic Port to India's Mundra and Nhava Sheva ports. This 10-day service, operated through a Vessel Sharing Agreement with Oman's Asyad Line, aims to strengthen trade ties between Saudi Arabia and India, facilitating the movement of consumer goods and petrochemicals.

Furthering its commitment to regional integration, Folk Maritime inaugurated the India Gulf Express Service, linking Dammam's King Abdulaziz Port with key ports in the Arabian Gulf and India. This initiative not only enhances trade routes but also reinforces the growing 'friend-sourcing' partnership between Saudi Arabia and India.

Sustainability remains a core focus for Folk Maritime. The company has integrated fuel-efficient vessels into its fleet and optimized service speeds to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. These efforts align with the International Maritime Organization's target of a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
