Fujairah Launches Initiative to Cultivate Young Tech Entrepreneurs

The Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, in collaboration with Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University , has introduced the 'Fujairah's Young Techpreneurs' initiative. This programme is tailored for UAE nationals in grades 3 to 9 studying in Fujairah and is scheduled to run from 6 April to 10 July 2025. It aims to position Fujairah as a hub for youth entrepreneurship in advanced technologies.

The initiative focuses on three core areas: fundamentals of programming and artificial intelligence tools, advanced programming and machine learning, and entrepreneurship with advanced technologies and cybersecurity. Through interactive sessions and tailored educational opportunities, it seeks to equip students with both foundational and advanced technological skills, enhance creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, and raise awareness of cybersecurity.

His Excellency Dr Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Fujairah, emphasized the importance of launching specialized initiatives that support the growth of Emirati youth and empower them to keep pace with the latest global developments through the optimal use of modern technologies.

Dr Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of HBMSU, highlighted the university's commitment to preparing a generation capable of turning challenges into opportunities. He stated that the collaboration with Fujairah's Young Techpreneurs initiative reflects this commitment and aims to enhance Fujairah's position as a leading hub for youth in technology fields.

The programme is designed as an advanced educational platform offering students a rich experience combining theoretical and practical learning. It aims to instill a culture of continuous learning while encouraging students to explore their creative capabilities through activities simulating real business environments.

The final list will include 200 students from participating schools across Fujairah. This initiative aims to provide an educational model that prepares innovative entrepreneurs capable of leading the digital future with competitive global skills.

The launch of Fujairah's Young Techpreneurs initiative aligns with the UAE's broader efforts to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among its youth. By equipping young Emiratis with the necessary skills and knowledge in advanced technologies, the initiative contributes to the nation's vision of becoming a global leader in technology and innovation.

In recent years, the UAE has emerged as a leading regional hub for start-ups, with over 5,600 start-ups registered across the country by the second quarter of 2024. The fintech sector, in particular, has seen significant growth, with over 550 companies currently operating in this field.

Initiatives like Fujairah's Young Techpreneurs are instrumental in sustaining this momentum by nurturing the next generation of tech entrepreneurs. By focusing on early education and skill development, the programme aims to create a pipeline of talent that will drive the UAE's digital economy forward.

The emphasis on cybersecurity within the initiative is particularly noteworthy. As digital technologies become increasingly integral to various sectors, the need for robust cybersecurity measures has never been more critical. By incorporating cybersecurity education into the programme, the initiative ensures that students are not only proficient in developing advanced technologies but also understand the importance of protecting these systems from potential threats.

The collaboration between the Office of the Crown Prince of Fujairah and HBMSU exemplifies the synergy between governmental bodies and educational institutions in the UAE. Such partnerships are vital in creating comprehensive programmes that address both the educational and practical aspects of technology and entrepreneurship.

The initiative also reflects a broader trend in the UAE's approach to education and workforce development. By integrating technology and entrepreneurship into the curriculum at an early stage, the country is proactively preparing its youth for the demands of the future job market. This proactive approach is essential in a rapidly evolving global economy where technological proficiency and entrepreneurial acumen are increasingly valued.

In addition to the educational benefits, the programme is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy. By fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, Fujairah can attract investments and establish itself as a hub for tech start-ups. This, in turn, can lead to job creation and economic diversification, aligning with the UAE's broader economic objectives.

The focus on AI and machine learning within the programme is particularly relevant given the global emphasis on these technologies. As industries worldwide increasingly adopt AI solutions, there is a growing demand for professionals skilled in this area. By providing students with a solid foundation in AI and machine learning, the initiative ensures that Emirati youth are well-positioned to capitalize on these emerging opportunities.

The inclusion of entrepreneurship training within the programme underscores the importance of not just technical skills but also business acumen. Understanding how to translate technological innovations into viable business ventures is crucial for the success of start-ups. By equipping students with both technical and entrepreneurial skills, the initiative provides a holistic education that prepares them for the multifaceted challenges of the tech industry.

The programme's emphasis on interactive sessions and practical learning experiences is also commendable. Such approaches enhance student engagement and facilitate a deeper understanding of complex concepts. By simulating real-world scenarios, students can apply their knowledge in practical settings, thereby bridging the gap between theory and practice.
