The newly identified oil fields and reservoirs have a combined production capacity of 8,126 barrels per day of various grades of Arabian oil. Specifically, the six oil fields and two reservoirs were found to contain different grades of Arabian oil, amounting to a total of 8,126 bpd. Additionally, natural gas discoveries from two gas fields and four gas reservoirs were estimated at 80.5 million standard cubic feet per day , with associated gas from the oil fields contributing an extra 2.11 million scfd.
These discoveries, while relatively modest in volume, contribute to Saudi Arabia's status as the world's leading oil exporter. As of February, the kingdom was producing nearly 9 million barrels per day of crude oil, according to secondary sources in OPEC's March report.
In July 2024, Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, announced the discovery of seven oil and gas deposits in the Eastern Province and the Empty Quarter. These included two unconventional oil fields, a reservoir of light Arabian oil, two natural gas fields, and two natural gas reservoirs. The Al-Ladam unconventional oil field in the Eastern Province yielded very light Arabian oil flowing from the Ladam-2 well at a rate of 5,100 bpd, accompanied by about 4.9 million scfd of gas. Similarly, the Al-Farouq field produced Arabian very light oil from the Al-Farouq-4 well at 4,557 bpd, with approximately 3.79 million scfd of gas.
In the Empty Quarter, the Al-Jahaq field was discovered, with natural gas flowing from the Arab-C reservoir in the Al-Jahaq-1 well at 5.3 million scfd, and an additional 1.1 million scfd from the Arab-D reservoir in the same well. The Al-Katuf field yielded natural gas from the Al-Katuf-1 well at 7.6 million scfd, accompanied by about 40 barrels per day of condensate.
