StartAD and VentureSouq to Launch Third Conscious Investor Fellowship to Boost MENA ClimateTech Ecosystem

StartAD, the Abu Dhabi-based global accelerator anchored at NYU Abu Dhabi and powered by Tamkeen, in collaboration with VentureSouq, a MENA-based venture capital firm, has announced the third edition of the Conscious Investor Fellowship . This eight-week pan-regional program is designed to enhance investment in climate technology startups across the Middle East and North Africa region.

The fellowship aims to equip regional investors with the necessary skills, tools, and networks to effectively invest in climate tech startups. The program will culminate with the Angel Rising Investment Symposium, an event that brings together global thought leaders to catalyze conversations on climate technology investments.

The CIF curriculum encompasses a comprehensive range of topics, including conscious investment strategies, startup diligence, valuations, impact measurement, portfolio management, and global trends in the impact investment space. Participants will also have access to elective thematic masterclasses focusing on sectors such as HealthTech, EdTech, Environmental Tech, and AgriTech.

The Angel Rising Investment Symposium, which marks the conclusion of the fellowship, is an annual event co-hosted by startAD and VentureSouq. The symposium has grown to become a leading platform for demystifying and encouraging technology startup investments from the UAE. It convenes global and local thought leaders to build awareness, access, and a better understanding of what it takes to become an investor in mission-driven, technology-enabled companies.

The launch of the third Conscious Investor Fellowship comes at a time when climate tech investments are gaining momentum in the MENA region. According to a report by CE-Ventures in partnership with MAGNiTT, US$651 million was invested in 148 climate tech startups across 225 deals between 2018 and 2022. The report also highlights that the UAE leads the region, accounting for 62% of total climate tech venture funding.

The CIF initiative aligns with the UAE's ambitions to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. By fostering a community of conscious investors, the program aims to catalyze technology adoption through startups to address the impacts of climate change on the economy.
